What is InQuiBiDT?
InQuiBiDT stands for “Inquiry-based Biodiversity Teaching”. This teaching approach uses IBSE as a means to enhance student understanding of biodiversity on location.
InQuiBiDT encompasses a range of Learning Scenarios, using IBSE as approach to learning about biodiversity and taxonomy. Using mobile technology and on location learning, students are engaged into meaningful learning with a new motivational aspect. InQuiBiDT uses technology such as smart phones and GPS devices as a vehicle to engage student with a dry topic such as taxonomy. Students can learn about taxonomy on location, having access to all necessary information on individual species.
User content is usually gathered using wiki software, thus, every student can contribute to his or her groups effort.
InQuiBiDT is part of the European Project “The Pathway to Inquiry-based Science Education”. At the Ludwigsburg University of Education the encompasses pre-service and in-service teacher training about biodiversity teaching on location, using mobile technology for support and as means of creating user content. During this project, there will be several smaller events including contests to create more publicity for InQuiBiDT and Pathway. We are proud to have already organized a nationwide coverage in a magazine of Deutsche Telekom who also supported the first student contest.
