Virtual Water: An expedition in the Ecological Botanical Garden

Su. 2012-11-11 (14:00)

Baumwolle If we think about water consumption, we mainly think about showering, car wash and these things. But there is also a great amount of water in our daily lifes which we don't see. This water is used for all those products we buy and use. As this water is somehow hidden in these products, it's called virtual water. For the production of a t-shirt for example 2700 l of water are used because cotton production is very intense in water consumption (foto on the right).

Students of the study program Global Change Ecology (GCE) of the University of Bayreuth prepared a little parcours in the greenhouses of the Ecological Botanical Garden which deals with this topic. This parcours is presented in a guided tour.

Meeting point: Entrance of the Ecological Botanical Garden.
