Climatic suitability for Asian tiger mosquito in Europe

2011-06-20

During the last decades the disease vector Aedes albopictus has rapidly spread around the globe. In a new study in "Global and Planetary Change" authors from the Chair of biogeography at the UBT model the present distribution and the future climatic suitability of Europe for this vector in the face of climate change - the results indicate that climatically suitable areas will increase in western and central Europe already in 2011–2040 and with a temporal delay in eastern Europe.
