DFG grants research group "Subsurface Stormflow"
2021-12-14
Where and how are floods caused? What factors influence the water quality of flowing waters during such events? In order to better answer these questions, a sound understanding of interflow, a hitherto poorly researched runoff component in the transition between surface runoff and groundwater, is necessary. The research group FOR 5288/1 "Fast and Invisible: Conquering Subsurface Stormflow through an Interdisciplinary Multi-Site Approach" therefore focuses on this aspect in order to enable more reliable long-term predictions of hydrological extreme events and their impacts. The spokesperson is Prof. Dr. Peter Chifflard (University of Marburg), and Dr. Luisa Hopp from BayCEER (Hydrology) is a member of the new research group and head of two subprojects.
