Macro- and microplastics on an agricultural farmland
2018-12-19
In a recent study BayCEER scientists quantified for the first time the macro- and microplastic contamination on an agricultural farmland in southeast Germany, analysing number, form and material of the particles. As a study site was chosen where microplastic-containing fertilizers and agricultural plastic applications were never used, the contamination is probably higher in areas with different cultivation practices - and the oceans are not the only relevant sink for plastic debris.
