New Heisenberg Professorship for Experimental Biogeochemistry
2017-08-21
In August, Dr. Martin Obst was appointed to the DFG Heisenberg Professorship for Experimental Biogeochemistry. His research and teaching focusses on the small scale heterogeneity of soils, sediments and biofilms. He analyzes unexplained chemical processes with innovative techniques - from confocal laser microscopy in his own laboratory to X-ray microscopy at the Canadian synchrotron in Saskatoon - on a scale of 1/1000 millimeters. The aim is to understand interactions between carbon, iron and sulfur cycles in the environment.
