Biodiversity increases the resistance to climate extremes

Biodiversity increases the resistance to climate extremes

2015-10-15

It remains unclear whether biodiversity buffers ecosystems against climate extremes, which are becoming increasingly frequent worldwide. An international team of researchers shows in a study in Nature that biodiversity increased the resistance of grassland ecosystems for a broad range of climate events. Experiments led by Prof. Dr. Anke Jentsch (disturbance ecology) and Prof. Dr. Carl Beierkuhnlein (bioogeography) at the University of Bayreuth were included in the study. The results are discussed in a recent comment in the Time Magazine.
