Surviving in the Dead Sea

Surviving in the Dead Sea

2014-05-12

The Dead Sea is one of the most hypersaline habitats on Earth. The fungus Eurotium rubrum is among the few species able to survive there. In Nature Communications researchers from Haifa (Israel) und Walnut Creek (USA) together with Dr. Alfons Weig und Prof. Dr. Gerhard Rambold from the University of Bayreuth highlight its adaptive strategies, based on genome analysis and transcriptome profiling. The fungus actively counteracts the salinity stress.
