Plastic waste threatens lakes

Plastic waste is of increasing concern in marine ecosystems, but freshwater ecosystems also act, at least temporarily, as a sink for plastic particles. This is shown in a study at Lake Garda which was recently published in "Current Biology" by a group of researchers around Prof. Dr. Christian Laforsch, University of Bayreuth and Prof. Dr. Reinhard Niessner, Technische Universität München.
