Towards biofortification: decoding the Zinc metabolism of plants
2013-07-31
Zinc is a vital element for the functioning of the human body. However, in many regions of the world vegetable nutrition does not provide enough Zinc for an adequate supply. This problem area is tackled by a team of researchers around Prof. Dr. Stephan Clemens at the University of Bayreuth. They recently published new insights into the zinc metabolism of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana in the "Plant Journal". The researchers hope to add with their results to optimizing the micronutrient content of edible plants.
